Metallurgical grade 90% Black silicon carbide 10-50mm for steel mill

Our Metallurgical Grade 90% Black Silicon Carbide (SiC) with particle size 10-50mm is a high-performance metallurgical additive specifically designed for steel mill applications, widely used in electric furnaces, converters and refining furnaces to optimize steelmaking processes and improve steel quality.

SiC: MIN 90%
Total Carbon (C): 28–32% and Free Carbon MAX 5%
Nitrogen (N): MAX 0.1%
SiO₂: MAX 8%
Al₂O₃: MAX 1%
Sulfur (S): MAX 0.15%
Moisture: MAX 0.5%
Grain size: 10–50 mm, MIN 90%
With a minimum SiC content of 90%, this product features low impurities: free carbon ≤1.5%, Fe₂O₃ ≤1.0%, S ≤0.05% and N ≤0.05%, ensuring no secondary pollution to molten steel. The 10-50mm block particles are dense, high-strength and dust-free, enabling smooth feeding and uniform reaction in the furnace, which avoids blockage and improves processing efficiency.
It serves three core functions in steelmaking: efficient deoxidation by decomposing Si and C to combine with oxygen in steel, stable carburization with higher carbon absorption rate than coke, and slag modification to reduce slag melting point and promote slag-steel separation. Packaged in 1000kg jumbo bags, it is convenient for hoisting and automatic feeding, meeting the large-scale production needs of steel mills.

The applications of Black silicon carbide powder?

Black silicon carbide powder is produced by smelting quartz sand and petroleum coke inside high‑temperature resistance furnaces. Featuring Mohs hardness of 9.2, good thermal conductivity, moderate electrical conductivity, excellent wear resistance and great chemical stability against acids and alkalis, this cost‑effective SiC material serves numerous industrial sectors across abrasive processing, thermal management, refractory metallurgy and advanced composite manufacturing.
Its most traditional and largest‑volume application lies in the abrasive and surface‑treatment industry. Graded black silicon carbide grits and micro‑powders are widely made into grinding wheels, abrasive belts, sandpapers and polishing pastes. It performs outstandingly for grinding cast iron, non‑ferrous metals such as aluminum, copper and brass, stone, marble, glass and low‑tensile‑strength non‑metallic workpieces. In sandblasting and water‑jet cutting operations, sharp‑edged black SiC particles efficiently remove rust, oxide scale, burrs and old coatings, achieving uniform matte surface finishing for machinery parts, casting components and hardware workpieces.
